Donation Challenge: AR-ACS Chapter Initiative Fund

Challenge to Donate

The Arkansas Chapter Initiative Fund was opened at the 2024 AR-ACS Annual Meeting. As a challenge to seek donations from chapter members, Dr. Lee Morisy, AR-ACS President, and Dr. Charles Mabry, Past ACS Officer, each agreed to match the first $5,000 in donations to the Chapter Initiative Fund.

Let’s take advantage of this challenge. You can help us reach our first $5,000 in contributions. Donate Today!

What is the ACS Arkansas Chapter Initiative Fund?

The Arkansas Chapter of the American College of Surgeons (AR-ACS) has partnered with the American College of Surgeons Foundation to set up a special fund, the ACS Arkansas Chapter Initiative Fund and all gifts to that fund will be held for use by AR-ACS. AR-ACS may use the funds to cover the costs of any initiative that advances the mission of the American College of Surgeons.

The American College of Surgeons Foundation is a 501C-3 nonprofit as established by the IRS. This tax status means that donations towards the Arkansas Chapter Initiative Fund are considered charitable contributions and are thus tax deductible.

The AR-ACS leadership has established several initiatives for which the funds will be used including sending residents and young fellows to the ACS Clinical Congress and the ACS Leadership and Advocacy Summit.

How do I give to the Arkansas Chapter Initiative Fund?

Giving to the ACS Arkansas Chapter Initiative Fund is quite simple. Go online to the ACS Foundation website to start the process. Under the Designation tab, select Arkansas Chapter Fund and follow the prompts after that to complete your gift.

This is a great opportunity for those surgeons looking to make a required minimum distribution (RMD) from an IRA through a qualified charitable distribution (QCD). A QCD allows individuals who are 70½ years old or older to donate to charities directly from a taxable IRA instead of taking their required minimum distributions.

For those wanting to make a QCD, a gift from a Donor Advised Fund or write a check:

  • Send checks payable to the American College of Surgeons Foundation, 633 N. St. Clair Street, Chicago, IL 60611
  • Correspondence should indicate that the gift is to support the Arkansas Chapter Fund
  • The ACS Foundation’s tax ID number is – 30-0305504
  • The fund number is 3206
